Educational Services
The on-site Village Ranch Alternative School serves males ages 12 to 18. Some students have pre-identified disabilities in the areas of Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD), Specific Leaning Disabilities (SLD), or other learning/behavioral difficulties.
Small class sizes of 10-12 students allow for individualized academic and behavioral attention from school staff specifically trained to educate students with unique needs.
The curriculum, aligned with Minnesota State Standards, includes:
- Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Health, Current Events, Computer Applications, Personal Finance and Physical Education.
- Allied Arts classes such as Home Economics, cooking, sewing, art, wood shop, social skills/peer interactions, and study skills.
- Students earn privileges for appropriate behavior. All school behaviors are communicated to the residence staff and have a direct bearing on program progress.
The school is part of the Meeker and Wright Special Education Cooperative (MAWSECO), certified by the Minnesota Dept. of Education as a “Care and Treatment” educational Program and has the possibility of mainstream education through the Dassel-Cokato School District.
